Rice cultivation contributes a significant amount of greenhouse gases, particularly methane.

Flooded rice fields are a major source of methane emissions globally. When organic matter in rice paddies decomposes underwater, microbes produce methane as a byproduct. This methane escapes into the atmosphere and contributes to the growing effects of global warming. It is estimated that around 10% of global methane emissions and 1.5% of total greenhouse gas emissions come from rice cultivation.

Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) is a water management technique used in rice cultivation.

Traditionally, Alternate Wetting & Drying relies on farmers manually monitoring water levels through tools like perforated tubes. Our AWD+ allow for more precise water management in rice cultivation reducing the production of methane.

  • This system allows for more efficient and precise water management by providing real-time insights into soil moisture conditions. It notifies farmers when the water level falls below a specific threshold, indicating it's time for re-flooding.
