Why are people impressed with our RYNAN Digital Agriculture Platform?

In our most recent participation in the Hort Connections 2026 trade show, many visitors at our booth were impressed by the capabilities of our RYNAN Insect Monitoring Systems. But they were even more impressed by the RYNAN Digital Agriculture Platform. So what is so captivating about it?

 

Its high efficiency in supporting large-scale agricultural administration and policy guidance.

What does the RYNAN Digital Agriculture Platform do?

The RYNAN Digital Agriculture Platform is the culmination of extensive hardware and software technologies that RYNAN Smart Agriculture has developed. Over the past few years, RYNAN Smart Agriculture has deployed hundreds of on-the-ground IoT devices, equipped with capabilities that measure various agricultural parameters, ranging from insect population tracking to methane emissions measurement. The RYNAN Digital Agriculture Platform takes it to another level by collating all the information measured by these devices and syncing them into a single platform.

The outcome? Users can view information on the various agricultural parameters gathered from the devices scattered across cities simultaneously on this platform. They can view both broader regional trends and specific local insights in this single platform, allowing for both a wide-scale and narrow understanding of the agricultural status in different areas. Especially for agricultural administrators, this is a valuable tool for managing agricultural development.




What can you see in the RYNAN Digital Agriculture Platform?

Simultaneous insect population and migration tracking

One of the pieces of information that the RYNAN Digital Agriculture Platform can display is data collected by the RYNAN InSENTINEL (Insect Monitoring System) stations. A single RYNAN InSENTINEL station is designed to monitor changes in insect populations in real-time at a specific location. In the platform, information about changes in insect populations from all the stations is included in this platform, allowing users to view the varying insect situations at different areas. For example, one of the Insect Monitoring Systems in Thanh Phu commune, Dong Thap Province, was found to have a higher number of pests than predators (Fig 2.), whereas the Insect Monitoring System in An Giang Province was found to have a higher number of predators than pests (Fig 3.). This calls for different pest management methods in both farming areas, and agricultural administrators have a better understanding of what practices they can recommend to the farmers.

What makes this even better is that the movements of the insects are also tracked. Insects are always on-the-go, moving from one place to another to feed on crops. This means that crops in neighbouring areas are susceptible to nearby insect attacks. To take pre-emptive measures and protect their crops from the incoming insects, it is important to know where the insects are coming from.

Here, we can see the Cyrthorhinus lividipennis (Mirid Bug) moving from the An Giang Province to the Dong Thap Province. The Mirid Bug is the natural enemy of the Nilaparvata lugens (Brown Planthopper), and the latter is responsible for causing hopper burns in rice fields. As the Mirid Bugs start to move towards the Dong Thap Province, the Brown Planthoppers in that area might gradually be consumed by the Mirid Bugs, and fewer pesticides will gradually be needed in the coming weeks. This is a good sign for farmers as they can reduce their pesticide usage during this period of time, while depending more on biological controls for crop protection.

Weather tracking

Additionally, information from the RYNAN weather stations is also synced to the platform. The RYNAN weather station measures different weather parameters, including the air humidity, vapor pressure deficit, leaf wetness, and sunshine intensity. Similar to the information about insect population changes, users can view the different weather conditions in different areas simultaneously on the platform. Variations in weather patterns on a larger scale can significantly affect the growth of crops, and for agricultural administrators, it is important to know the changes in weather patterns to guide farmers in their production process. 

Here, a weather station in Son Kien commune in the An Giang Province shows data of continuous rainfall from night to the morning of the next day after sunrise (Fig 5.). As fields cooled overnight and the sun warmed the air in the morning, the temperature gap between the fields and the air widened. Thus, early in the morning, at around 7 am, the high temperature difference indicates that pesticides should not be sprayed to avoid excessive pesticide evaporation, which can lead to unnecessary wastage and use of chemicals. Then what about the weather in another area?

On the other hand, a weather station in Binh Chanh commune in An Giang Province shows less rainfall in the area (Fig 6.), and thus the temperature gap between the fields and the air is less drastic compared to that measured by the weather station in Son Kien commune. There is less risk of evaporation of the pesticide sprayed, and farmers have fewer worries about whether the optimal timings for pesticide spraying are met.

Applying the RYNAN Digital Agriculture Platform in real-life

The RYNAN Digital Agriculture Platform undoubtedly has tremendous benefits for agricultural administrators having to manage agriculture on a larger-scale. Ms Dao, a commune leader for the My Tho commune in the Dong Thap Province, mentioned that the platform was a valuable tool for them to streamline their administrative procedures as they have to manage numerous farmers in various production areas. With this platform, she felt that they were able to better support the farmers on the ground, and it also helped her to build stronger relationships with the farmers themselves.

Despite its origin in Vietnam, the platform’s usage is not restricted to this country. With more extensive deployment of IoT devices on the ground, it is possible to replicate this agricultural platform in other countries to strengthen agricultural administrative procedures. Just a couple of months ago, we showcased the RYNAN Digital Agricultural Platform at the Hort Connections 2026 trade show, and many were interested and impressed by the comprehensiveness of the platform, with some wanting to have such a platform in the different regions of Australia.

Working towards the long-term improvement of agricultural development

RYNAN Smart Agriculture believes that working towards the improvement of agricultural development involves the efforts of many players, not just the farmers. It requires strong collaboration between the private and public players, and this digital platform can provide a space for this collaboration. In Vietnam, the platform was built with the help of the government. Data such as satellite information was provided by the government, which was valuable in building the platform. Subsequently, they are able to use the data from the platform to guide how agricultural policies and operations are made to support farmers on the ground. 

For agriculture to support the growing nutritional needs of large global populations, agricultural policies and operations need to be more efficient in resource management and distribution. The extensive monitoring and tracking provided by such a digital platform can improve efficiency in doing so, and contribute to agricultural development in the long run.
