Supporting Climate-Smart Rice Farming Through Precision Water and Methane Monitoring

As the Philippines continues to strengthen sustainable rice production, LEADS Agriculture Philippines Inc. partnered with RYNAN Technologies to evaluate how digital monitoring can help farmers improve water management while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The pilot project deployed the RYNAN AWD+ Automated Water Level Monitoring System and RYNAN MethanEYE Methane Emissions Monitoring System across rice fields in Laguna, Philippines. Working alongside local stakeholders, the project explores how continuous field monitoring can support more informed irrigation practices and provide reliable environmental data throughout the growing season.

The AWD+ system helps farmers implement Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) more accurately by continuously monitoring field water levels, reducing the need for manual measurements. At the same time, MethanEYE continuously measures methane emissions, allowing researchers and project partners to better understand the relationship between irrigation practices and greenhouse gas emissions in rice cultivation.

The project demonstrates how precision monitoring can support both farm productivity and environmental sustainability, while contributing valuable field data to future climate-smart agriculture initiatives in the Philippines.
